Just as bad weather hit the north-west the previous evening, the home side overwhelmed Manchester United away at the Etihad. Manchester United's ability to juggle domestic and European football with a small roster has been a frequently analyzed subject since they secured entry to the European competition. Unfortunately for the visitors, they appeared tired throughout, the memorable win against PSG clearly having had an impact.

Tactical Shifts

Ex- Manchester City player Jess Park came closest, rattling the post, but the visitors were offensively poor and failed to record a single shot on goal.

The home side, meanwhile, could have increased their advantage when a superb Vivianne Miedema through ball sent Shaw away only for her to miss the chance but it did not affect the result to the winning team. Previously unable to beat any side who placed above them the previous campaign, City's side now have wins against Arsenal and United to put them in a favorable situation after the opening fixtures.
